Anne’s House of Dreams by L.M. Montgomery (Anne of Green Gables #5)

Anne and Gilbert are finally married. Anne is now a full time wife and has her first children in this book. Anne had a significant loss in this book so she was less funny than before. As usual, new and interesting characters are vividly rendered by LMM. I liked the secondary characters and there were more of a focus on them than on Anne. I can see how the books are moving away from her character development. It’s been a good journey with this series but I am looking forward to the ending in the next few books.

The Harlequin Tea Set and Other Stories by Agatha Christie with Isla Blair (Narrator), Hugh Fraser (Narrator), Simon Vance (Narrator)

I think we only skipped one repeated story in this one. We relistened to a couple since it’s been so long for us now that even though I remember most the ending, it can be enjoyable to listen again. The Christie short stories are great because they cover so much in a short time. I do miss the novels and their deeper dives into characters.

A Rome of One’s Own: The Forgotten Women of the Roman Empire by Emma Southon with Danielle Cohen (Narrator)

I was looking forward to this feminist history book, but it was a bit too long and the tone got old quick. The author is an academic historian specializing in the topic but she used a modern tone which had more slang and colloquialisms. This was amusing at the start, but I got tired of it after awhile. I found my mind wandering more than usual on my walks while listening to this. I missed details in the later antiquity chapters. The narration was fine but did not add to the book either. I will probably not pick up more from the author.
